Se rememoran en el trabajo ciertos comportamientos de los salmantinos según se reflejan en los textos de los sínodos que las diócesis de Salamanca y Ciudad Rodrigo celebraron entre los años 1310 a 1497. Esta singular literatura eclesiástica viene recogida en el "Synodicon hispanum", 5: "Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca y Zamora" (Madrid 1987) 9-427 publicada por la Biblioteca de Autores Cristianos. A lo largo del estudio se examinan algunos usos y costumbres observados por las comunidades cristianas salmantinas en torno a una serie de realidades o instituciones que les afectaban muy directamente. En este sentido se describe el comportamiento de los seglares en las fiestas religiosas aludiéndose asimismo a las romerías, a las vigilias y a las prácticas que se observaban dentro de los lugares sacros. También son evocados los juegos entonces habituales, rememorándose además el amplio abanico de supersticiones y creencias mágicas de aquellas épocas. Con cierto detenimiento se trata la temática de los diezmos y primicias, desgranándose las artimañas urdidas por el laicado para eludir el pago de este tributo. Desfilan también por estas páginas referencias a los usos socio-litúrgicos crecidos en torno a los ritos funerarios encontrando, por otro lado, acomodo los rasgos esenciales del comportamiento ante la frecuentísima y severa censura de la excomunión. Tras un brevísimo recuerdo a las confabulaciones de la feligresía contra los párrocos, a manera de epílogo el autor destaca algunas conclusiones sobre la investigación realizada y los amplios campos que para la historiografía local ofrecen los sínodos diocesanos de una región.

In the article are recalled certain behavioural patterns of the inhabitants of Salamanca based on how they are depicted in the text of the Synods which the dioceses of Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo celebrated between 1310 and 1497. This unusual piece of eccesiastical literature is compiled in the Synodicon Hispanum, 5: Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca y Zamora (Madrid 1987) 9-427 published by Biblioteca de Autores Cristianos. Throughout this piece of investigation, we examine traditions and customs observed by christian communities of Salamanca, regarding a series of realities or institutions which had a very direct effect on them. In this respect, we describe the behaviour of laymen and women in religious festivals, referring as well to the pilgrimages, vigils and customs that were observed on holy ground. Likewise, we evoke the games which were common at that time, not forgetting the wide rage of superstitious and magic beliefs of those times. Certain attention is given to the subject of the tithes and first fruits, disentangling the schemes plotted by secular people to avoid payment of this duty. These pages also allude to the social liturgical customs which flourished with relation to the funeral rites, as well as to the essential traits regarding the ever-frequent and strict censorship of excommunication. After a very brief reference to the conspiracies of the parishioners against the parish priests, the author, as an epilogue, comes to some conclusions on the research carried out and the wide fields that the diocesan synods of a region opened up to the local historiography.
