Se analiza un caso de violencia física ejercida por el marido sobre la esposa en la ciudad de Badajoz a finales del Antiguo Régimen, principios del siglo XIX. El marido podía ser hidalgo, pero la esposa era labradora. Sin embargo ambos tenían una situación económica medianamente sólida y pertenecían a las clases medias de la ciudad. El asunto terminó en los tribunales y la justicia castigó duramente al marido en beneficio de la esposa, a pesar de que el juicio terminó con un acuerdo entre los dos cónyuges. Report about a domestic violence case in which a wife was physically abused by her husband in Badajoz at the end of the Ancien Régime at the begining of the 19th century. The husband might have been a nobleman, but the wife was a landworker. However, both of them had a sound economic situation and belonged to the middle class in the city. This matter was taken to court and the husband was strongly punished, despite that the trial ended up in an agreement between the two spouses. Keywords: Marriage, inequality, domestic violence, trial.
