De una única tradición taurina derivan dos manifestaciones culturales paralelas: la corrida reglada y los llamados toros populares. La primera, reglada y ritualizada hasta el más mínimo detalle; los segundos, también sometidos al imperio de la ley, mantienen de alguna manera el ser originario de las fiestas con toros, la diversión más extendida en la península y sur de Francia y, por exportada, en la América hispánica. Lo que los propios protagonistas de esta segunda realidad creen un hecho cultural «de toda la vida» no es más un producto del tiempo y de la Historia, como las fuentes documentales primarias y secundarias y la propia observación y análisis dejan ver. Dos casos, los de Barrancos, en Portugal, y Segura de León, en España, y sus festejos taurinos tradicionales, estudiados en paralelo, ayudarán a entender lo que, por otra parte, resulta obvio de toda obviedad, a saber, que cualquier fenómeno o hecho cultural está sometido al lógico paso del tiempo y al cambio.

ABSTRACT: From one and only bullfighting tradition arise two parallel cultural manifestations: the ruled bullfighting and the so-called popular bullfights. The first one, regulated and ritualized up to the minimum detail; the second one, always subject to the law, maintains in a way the origin of the feasts with bulls, the most extended diversion in the peninsula and the South of France, and, once being exported, in the Hispanic America. What the mere protagonists of this second reality believe as an «all life long» cultural representation is just but a product of time and History, as the primary and secondary documentary sources, together with the mere observation and analysis, reveal. Two examples, that of the Barrancos, in Portugal, and Segura de Leon, in Spain, and their traditional bullfighting celebrations, studied at the same time, will help understand what, on the other hand, seems obvious, that is, the fact that any cultural event is influenced by the logical passing of time and its subsequent changes.
