La presencia de diversas variedades lingüísticas (tanto constitutivas como consecutivas), su desigual alcance geográfico y el permanente contacto entre algunas de ellas son factores determinantes de la existencia de elementos léxicos de distintos orígenes diatópicos a lo largo del vasto territorio que separa España y Portugal. En el presente estudio —a partir de los materiales proporcionados por los repertorios lexicográficos que estamos manejando para la realización del Tesoro léxico de la frontera hispano-portuguesa—, se exponen algunos problemas que afectan al origen del vocabulario y se propone una categorización de los elementos léxicos que se localizan a lo largo de la línea que separa longitudinalmente ambos Estados: desde el noroeste de Zamora hasta el suroeste de Huelva y desde el noreste de Bragança al sureste de Faro. Las categorías analizadas permiten observar la influencia que el castellano y el portugués han ejercido fuera del territorio administrativo en el que son lenguas oficiales, así como particularizar la zona fronteriza, caracterizada por el uso de un vocabulario propio, con respecto a los dos países. El léxico seleccionado para nuestro corpus dialectal presenta como nota común el hecho de pertenecer al vocabulario diferencial: o bien son formas que carecen de consideración normativa en la lengua oficial del país en el que se documentan, o bien son términos españoles usados en Portugal o términos portugueses empleados en España. The presence of diverse linguistic varieties (both constituent and consecutive), their unbalanced geographic scope and the continuous contact among some of them are decisive factors behind the presence of lexical elements of different diatopic origins throughout the extensive territory that separates Spain and Portugal. This study, drawing from materials provided by the lexicographical works we are consulting for compiling the Tesoro léxico de la frontera hispano-portuguesa (Lexical thesaurus of the Spanish-Portuguese border), outlines several problems that affect the origin of vocabulary and suggests categorising the lexical elements found along the entire border separating both States lengthwise: from the north-west of Zamora to the south-west of Huelva and from the north-east of Bragança to the south-east of Faro. The analysed categories help reveal the influence of Spanish and Portuguese outside the administrative territory where they stand as official languages, and distinguish the border area, characterised by the use of own vocabulary. The common thread of the lexicon chosen for our dialectal body of work is that it belongs to differentiating vocabulary: they are either structures that lack the standard status in the official language of the country where they are documented, or are Spanish terms used in Portugal or Portuguese terms used in Spain. Keywords: Spanish-Portuguese border.
