Castro Marim é uma vila do interior algarvio que se caracteriza pela sua grande diversidade patrimonial (edificada, natural e cultural). O presente estudo tem por objectivo principal reflectir acerca da preservação, dinamização, divulgação e valorização cultural desta vila. Pretende-se levantar questões acerca do crescimento e consolidação da malha urbana, através dos elementos construídos de carácter militar: o Castelo de Castro Marim e o Forte de São Sebastião, aliados à Cerca Seiscentista, ao Revelim de Santo António e à Bateria do Registo, de forma a compreender o desenho urbano actual e como estes dois elementos estruturaram o tecido urbano ao longo dos séculos. Castro Marim is a village characterized by its diverse heritage (built, natural and cultural). This study’s main purpose is to focus on the preservation, promotion, dissemination and utilization of its cultural value. It is intended to raise questions about the growth and consolidation of the urban network, built through elements of military nature: the Castle of Castro Marim and the Fort San Sebastian, along with the “Cerca Seiscentista”, the “Revelim de Santo António” and the “Bateria do Registo”, in order to understand the current urban design and how these two elements contributed to structure it throughout the centuries.
