Pretendemos dar a conhecer alguns dos resultados preliminares da escavação que está a ser efectuada na área de ampliação da Biblioteca Municipal de Mértola. A escavação ainda não terminou e até agora não foi realizado o estudo final dos materiais arqueológicos recuperados. Contudo, podemos já assegurar uma sequência estratigráfica que inclui uma olaria do fim da Idade Média e inícios do Período Moderno, um enterramento da Baixa Idade Média, níveis habitacionais islâmicos, estruturas Tardo - Romanas, e um importante complexo de muralhas e níveis a elas associados de época Romana - Republicana e Idade do Ferro. 

We want to make known some of the preliminary results of the excavation that is being carried out in the area of the extension of Mértola’s Municipal Library. The excavation has still not terminated and the final study of the archaeological material recovered has not been carried out as yet. Nevertheless, we can guarantee a strata graphical sequence that includes a pottery dating from the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Modern period, a burial ground from the Lower Middle Ages, levels of Islamic habitations, late Roman structures and an importance complex of walls and levels associated with them from the Roman Republic epoch and the Iron Age.
