Las investigaciones que llevamos realizando durante mucho tiempo sobre patrimonio musical extremeño histórico y de tradición oral nos han ido llevando poco a poco a las danzas paralitúrgicas, estas danzas que forman parte de los rituales de todas las culturas y cuyo estudio nosotros hemos centrado en la Comunidad Autónoma de Extremadura. Tras ir recorriendo pueblos diferentes y zonas concretas, ya hemos podido establecer una serie de características según su funcionalidad, tipología, por zonas, de género, por épocas de la vida y rituales de paso y por ciclos del año natural, litúrgico y agrícola-ganadero. A partir de este estudio se abren otras hipótesis para la investigación en grupos interdisciplinares y estudiosos de otras zonas españolas e iberoamericanas. Esta comunicación resume brevemente el trabajo que pronto verá la luz, auspiciado por CIOFF-INAEM, titulado de la misma manera, Danza y Ritual en la Tradición Extremeña.

The investigations that we have been carrying out for a long time now concerning the oral tradition and the historical musical heritage in Extremadura have gradually led us to concentrate on those semi-liturgical dances that form part of the rituals of all cultures and whose study we have focussed our attention on throughout the Autonomous Region of Extremadura. After visiting several different towns and other places of interest, we were able to establish a series of characteristics proper to the dances in that tradition, based on their function, typology, location, genre, life cycles and intermittent rituals, and annual liturgical and agricultural livestock cycles. Following this study, other hypotheses are opened up to investigation by interdisciplinary groups together with scholars from other Spanish and Latin American zones. This analysis briefly summarizes the conclusions that will soon be made available under the auspices of the CIOFF-INAEM, to be likewise called, "Dance and Ritual in the Extremadura Tradition".
