El proyecto de la “Gran Vía de Badajoz”, es una de las obras inacabadas en la ciudad más importante de Extremadura. Con 115 años de antigüedad, su inicio se remonta al gobierno de don Francisco Páez de la Cadena, Alcalde de Badajoz en el siglo XIX, que en una sesión celebrada bajo su presidencia dio cuenta de su proyecto para construir una gran vía que partiendo de la calle Moreno Nieto, terminase en Puerta de Palmas, a semejanza de las que ya había en otras poblaciones. Al día de hoy, en el año 2011, no existe ni Gran Vía ni Calle Mayor, en su lugar hay una pequeña avenida llamada Juan Carlos I, cuyo segundo tramo (calle Santo Domingo-Puerta de Palmas) se encuentra, aún, sin terminar su edificación. The project of the Great Vía of Badajoz, is one of the unfinished constructions from the City of Badajoz, as well as also of great importance and relevance for Extremadura. With 115 year-old antiquity, yours begins is raised with the government of D.
