This paper investigates a morpho-syntactic phenomenon of European Portuguese non-standard varieties - the inflected gerund - based mainly on data from a corpus of spontaneous production - Cordial-sin. Since non finite verbal forms inflected from person are rare in the languages of the world, the main goals of this paper are: i) to determine the geographic area in which the inflected gerund can be found; ii) to determine the syntactic contexts in which it is allowed; iii) to identify the role of person morphology on the gerund; iv) to contribute to the understanding of the nature and role of overt agreement morphemes in the grammar, particulary in a principles and parameters framework.
