Based on old documentation, we aim at selecting protocol texts which collect everyday voices that confirm the coexistence of linguistic interference in the Southern frontier of Spain. We provide historical documentation of the alleged lexical loanwords of Portuguese, which may colour the Western Andalusian vocabulary, in order to identify the Portuguese impact of the border territories on this lexicon (growing apart from the elements coming from Northern Asturian-Leonese), which historically have been attributed to the Spanish language, according to historical migrations. The registered portuguesismos confirm the adscription to the rural context and the difficulty to guarantee hypothesis about their penetration and expansion ways.
