El presente trabajo evidencia la muy coordinada relación del Tribunal de la Inquisición de Llerena con la Inquisición de Évora y otros tribunales portugueses. Documenta sobre el trabajo de los tribunales a ambos lados de la frontera: sus usos, sus conciertos, sus métodos y colaboraciones, sus disputas y desavenencias. La correspondencia entre los tribunales de ambos reinos atestigua el éxodo humano que se vivió en la frontera. Cientos de personas buscaban refugio en las villas de la raya, huían de las cárceles secretas de ambos tribunales y de la posible quema en la hoguera de muchos de ellos. La ubicación de la Iglesia católica a ambos lados de la raya hizo que durante varios siglos ondeara en la zona la bandera de la intolerancia y la persecución en nombre de Dios. Muchos hombres y mujeres sufrieron en sus carnes, por pensar de forma diferente, el escarnio, la humillación pública y el odio de sus vecinos cristianos. Personajes que por su comportamiento perseguido forman parte de nuestra historia.

ABSTRACT: The present study evidences the very coordinated relationship between the Tribunal of the Inquisition of Llerena and the Inquisition in Evora and other Portuguese tribunals. It also shows documents about the tribunals’ work in both sides of the frontier: their uses, their agreements, their methods and collaborations, their disputes and disagreements. The correspondence between the tribunals of both kingdoms testifies the human exodus that occurred in the frontier. Hundreds of people looked for refuge in the towns of the bordering line, fleeing from secret jails of both tribunals and from the possible burning in the stake. The settlement of the Catholic Church in both sides of the line facilitated for many centuries the wavering of the flag of the intolerance and the prosecution in the name of God. Many men and women suffered upon their own flesh the shame, the public humiliation and the hatred of their Christian neighbours just for thinking differently. They are all characters who, due to their prosecuted behaviour, play main roles in our history.
